Enabling [Digital] Innovation in Wales: Data, Infrastructure and Skills

Professor Tom Crick

Date: Tuesday 27 September 2016

Time: 5.30-7.00pm

Tom is Professor of Computer Science & Public Policy (and Deputy Director of Enterprise) at Cardiff Metropolitan University; he is the Nesta Data Science Fellow and previously a Science Media Fellow with BBC Wales. In this talk he will revisit the idea of “Delivering a Digital Wales” in the context of curriculum reform, public services innovation and digital transformations, and consider some implications for SMEs.

Can the Metro Deliver Local Economic Benefits?

Dr Mark Lang

Date: Monday 14 November 2016

Time: 5.30-7.00pm

In this seminar Dr Mark Lang, author of the FSB Wales report ‘On the Right Track?’ published in May 2016, will outline his thinking on whether the Cardiff Capital Region Metro can truly deliver sustainable economic and social benefit for communities and towns across South East Wales.  He will conclude that although the Metro might contribute to the overall package of measures that could support positive change in the region, this is by no means assured. As well as discussing the international evidence in his report, he will also provide an update on developments since its publication.
