The Setting and Emphasis

You will learn in a traditional, authentic Yoga setting under highly qualified instructors, where you will gain the skills you need to pass on practical Yoga techniques to your students. Training will be both theoretical and practical, and will include:

  • Yoga Asanas - Daily Personal Practice

Learning outcomes: Improve personal asana practice through understanding of bandhas, breath, correct alignment and use of modifications and props under the guidance of an experienced teacher. Develop and understanding of your strengths and limitations and how you can use them as a teaching opportunity in a                classroom setting.

  • Chanting, Meditation and Pranayama

Essential for both personal practice and teaching groups and individuals with therapeutic needs and the goal of inner peace. Learning outcomes: Understand of the contraindications, health benefits and the physical and physiological impact of these practices on the subtle and gross body. In a practicum setting, achieve a level of competency to teach basic chanting, pranayama and meditation techniques to students.

  • Philosophy

Without an understanding of the philosophy and history of yoga we are just making shapes. This subject is essential for the teaching integrity and spiritual growth. Learning outcomes: A basic understanding  of the roots of yoga philosophy. A working knowledge of the 8 Limbs of Ashtanga Yoga and the Yoga Sutras.

The often ignored sister science of yoga. Ayurveda is the ancient medical science of India. Learning outcomes: Introducing trainees to the science of ayurveda, its history as a traditional medical system, its relationship to yoga and the basic concepts of ayurveda. Learn the techniques of basic kriyas for personal use.

  • Anatomy

Through the study of Anatomy we keep students safe and help them access the physical benefits of their yoga practice with ease. Learning outcomes:Understand the composition and function of the major planes, muscles, bones, ligaments and tissues relevant to yoga. Understand the importance of correct skeletal alignment and movement in the role of injury prevention. Understand the central nervous system, respiratory system, blood circulation, the endocrine and lymphatic systems in relation to yoga practices.

  • Asana Alignment and Adjusting Teachniques

An essential part of our curriculum to help students reap the most benefits from their practice and to prevent injury and help students deepen their practice through adjusting skills. Learning outcomes: Understanding the principles of alignment and adjusting. Ability to provide effective adjustment, modifications, props and verbal              cues to help students in developing safety, benefits and access specific depth in their practice.

  • Sequencing

It is essential for a teacher to understand the fundamental sequencing guidelines and also understand how to sequence towards specific needs  and class objectives. Learning outcomes: Demonstrated understanding of the purpose and intention of sequencing. Ability to intelligently sequence classes for students with the goal                      of optimising their health and wellness.

  • Practicum

Learning outcomes: Learn to teach a series of asana safely, competently and with integrity. Understand each asana on a pranic, physical and therapeutic level. Understand how to teach a wide range of mixed abilities and ranges of capacity through variations, props and modifications. Many trainees graduate from a TTC                         without the ability to teach because the programme did not allocate sufficient time for practicum. Yoga Teaching Practicums make up a large component of the training with plenty of guidance and feedback from teachers.

The Venue and Location

The Venue: Vikasa Yoga Retreat

The Island of Koh Samui is a small island located in the Gulf of Thailand in the southeast Thailand in Surat Thani Province. Koh Samui has two sister islands: Koh Phangan and the smaller Ko Tao. Main town is Chaweng, where you can find anything you need for your stay. Koh Samui is famous for sandy beaches, coral reefs, and coconut trees are present on the island. The climate is warm and humid for most of the year. However, in comparison to most of the rest of southern Thailand, Koh Samui’s weather is relatively drier. The heaviest precipitation is typically seen in the months of October and November. For the rest of the year, given the tropical climate, rain showers are brief; 20-60 minutes duration is typical. The name Koh Samui derives from the word “samui”, meaning “sand bar” in the southern dialect, for these are many sand bars offshore.

Thailand’s national animal, the mighty Elephant, is a symbol or power and royalty. Koh Samui offers one of the best tropical rain forest elephant trekking tours. Experience Thailand’s gracious animal in the most natural way through a jungle trek on the back of one of these humble animals. Travel through exotic coconut groves and wade through the cooling rivers on this amazing journey. This is by far the most magical way to discover all of Koh Samui’s jungle secrets.

The Koh Samui aquarium has a beautiful collection of tropical marine lige. Think of sharks, tropical fish, turtles and more. The animals are home to Koh Samui and the Gulf of Thailand. You can enjoy a wonderful moment while seeing these fish swim around the aquarium. This tour is a great way to calm down and relax, take some pictures and enjoy the underwater sea paradise of Thailand without wearing a diving suit!

Come say hello to the young leopards and Royal Bengal Tigers! Have a look at their strength and amazing power that puts fear and awe into all of us. They are the predators that are feared the most in the animal kingdom. You can stare at them from close by or from a distance, as they play with each other in their natural environment. If you feel a bit more adventurous, you can have have a photo taken while you’re sitting right next to them!
