Six Day Residential Course on Muslim Healthcare Chaplaincy

Sunday 29th September – Friday 4th October 2013

Venue: Peter Harrison Lodge, Gilwell Park, Chingford, London,

E4 7QW.

UK’s growing Muslim population is increasingly reflected in the staff and user
numbers of the NHS hospitals as well. This also means that the NHS will need
more Muslim chaplains to serve its patients and staff than ever before.
Muslim Spiritual Care Provision in the NHS, a project of the Muslim Council of Britain in partnership with the Department of Health is tasked to raise
awareness about Muslim healthcare chaplaincy, train aspiring chaplains to
gain appropriate competence to be available to be recruited in NHS hospitals
when opportunity arises.

For the last 6 years the Muslim Spiritual Care Provision in the NHS has been running an annual residential training course on healthcare chaplaincy providing broad and focussed training on different aspects of healthcare chaplaincy. The success of the course is widely recognised and often the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) or other senior NHS officials attend in the closing session and distribute the certificates.

Due to the success of our above training courses and increasing demand we are
now pleased to offer a further six day training course to be held from 29th September to 4th October 2013.

This training course is targeted at serving chaplains working in NHS hospitals, Imams, voluntary chaplains and students of Darul Ulums and all those who aspire to take up healthcare chaplaincy as a profession.

To whom it may concern:

The Residential Muslim Healthcare Chaplaincy Training Course offered by Muslim Spiritual Care Provision in the NHS (MSCP – a project of the Muslim Council of Britain, in partnership with the Department of Health) has been reviewed by the Cardiff Centre for Chaplaincy Studies (CCCS – a partnership between St. Michael’s College and Cardiff University).  The Centre reviewed the aims, objectives and learning outcomes for the programme, together with the timetable and course leaders.   CCCS recognises the educational value of the programme as a significant piece of initial training for Muslims involved in healthcare chaplaincy, designed to equip them to offer spiritual and religious care effectively in a multi-faith context.   CCCS has committed to further work with MSCP which will establish whether university accreditation may be offered for the programme in the future, by linking it with programmes already offered by the Centre.
