The 20th Anniversary of the Institute of Photonics
A Celebration of Photonics
in association with International Year of Light 2015

Wednesday 4th November 2015
10.15 Registration for 11.00 start
Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde,
George Street, Glasgow, G1 1RD

This Celebration of Photonics, in association with the 20th Anniversary of the University of Strathclyde's Institute of Photonics, will see world-leading experts in their fields presenting across a wide range of photonics research. Technical topics will include diamond photonics, visible light communications, gallium nitride based lighting, colloidal quantum dot devices and optogenetics; all set in the context of use-inspired research, university-business engagement and industrial photonics.

Photonics is increasingly part of our everyday lives to the extent that, perversely, it has become "invisible" to the average consumer - depending on their broadband connectivity, watching their vibrant display, benefiting from the latest medical research and many other benefits that modern life can offer. This has been realised over the past few decades by the efforts of the best of academia and industry worldwide. These efforts will continue unabated throughout this century (often quoted as "the century of the photon"). The United Nations has recognised the impact that photonics has, and will have, in meeting the global challenges we all face.

This Celebration of Photonics is an opportunity to hear from academics and industry spearheading the technologies to meet these challenges. This event will be of interest to academics, researchers and students; industrialists; government agencies; professional and learned society representatives; and the media
