A Victorian Delight: 18 Stafford Terrace
Thursday, 16 May 2013 from 18:30 to 21:00 (BST)
London, United Kingdom
Entry: Ground floor and basement (former service quarters) only.
Meet Mrs. Sambourne, the wife of Punch cartoonist Edward Linley Sambourne and her housekeeper Mrs. Reffell at our Victorian Delight evening, which includes:
- special performances of Victorian manners in the Dining and Morning Room.
- an insight into Victorian family life and household
- classical 19th-century music as a backdrop
- a free sketch by our caricaturist
The evening provides a rare and memorable opportunity to experience what was known as an 'Aesthetic interior' or 'House Beautiful' style. The Aesthetic Movement of the late nineteenth century advocated the use of foreign or 'exotic' influences in the decoration of the home and encouraged a life-style that was equally beautiful.
The event is part of the Museums at Night, you can drop in during the course of the evening, do not need to be at the venue at 6.30pm.
