Description

***This is a FREE event. We are currently full but we hope to find more places. Please put your name down on the Waiting List and we will get back to you as soon as we can. ***

This Share and Learn Event is about the stories of people who are experimenting with decentralisation, co-production and other new and risky things. It is for people who want to come together to share their joys and frustrations, but also learn from each other's experience. To get conversations going we have story tellers from Birmingham, Buckinghamshire, and beyond!

The event is the culmination of a month of activities exploring Manchester and Birmingham Universities’ research by Liz Richardson and Catherine Durose into models of local accountability and co-production.

At this event we will hear - how a Parish Council has taken on local environmental services from the county, employing local villagers part-time to do it. We’ll hear how a large city is changing how it relates to citizens one neighbourhood at a time. We’ll hear from an innovative third sector provider how they depend on the agencies who commission them, to be genuinely up for devolving power – plus other real-life examples, all told through stories.

We’re using the term ‘stories’ to describe the seven presentations which will be the focus of the day and we mean ‘stories’ literally, because stories prompt us to talk about what these examples actually tell us – more than presentations which simply explain process. Our contributors will start at the beginning, and end with ‘the moral of the story is…’

You’ll get a chance to hear almost every story as they will be repeated to small groups throughout the day. Participants will have plenty of time to question, even challenge the story-tellers, as well as offer their own alternative ‘moral of the tale’.

Please book as soon as you can as there as limited places!
