Luton Choral Society is performing African Sanctus, by David Fanshawe.
Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England
African Sanctus is an unorthodox setting of the Latin Mass integrated with authentic traditional African music, recorded by the composer, David Fanshawe, on his now legendary journeys up the river Nile through Egypt, Sudan, Uganda and Kenya. The work involves a live chorus singing with, piano, timpani, percussion, guitars and solo Soprano.
The taped music from the four countries is played in between movements and at times the chorus sings with the recordings. In this concert films and slides of David Fanshawe’s journeys in Africa will be presented as a backdrop to the music to provide a visual experience.
