AIA UK Student Charrette '12
Saturday 27 October at 9am - 6pm
London SW6 2PY
(nearest tube: Opposite Imperial Wharf Overground)
For the second consecutive year, the AIA UK has collaborated with the British Institute of Interior Design to open tht event to interior design students as well as architecture students. This annual event is a lively opportunity for students to 'limber up' early in the academic year, as well as for recent graduates to revisit the experiences of the one-day design exercise. Participants will design collaboratively in teams of around 6 to 8 students, mentored by a seasoned practicing architect or interior architect. To heighten a fun sense of competition, participants are encouraged to work as a team 'representating' their School or practice. Individuals, as well, will be married-up with a team on the day. At the end of the afternoon, at about 5pm, team submissions will be discussed publicly, and prizes will be awarded to the three most compelling schemes.
The Chairman of the Jury this year will be Paul Finch OBE, journalist and critic; Deputy Chair of the Design Council; Chair of the Design Council's CABE (Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment); Editor of Architectural Review; Editor of the Architect's Journal from 1994 to 1999.
Charrette '12 challenges students to explore adaptation of objects, whether it can be held in one's hand or if one stands within it. They will investigate what, in an object's history, adds values and where there are opportunities to bring new life.
Note for students:
Although there will be repographic services available, please bring your own materials for sketching and model making etc. This is a CAD free event with only sketched, modeled and collaged proposals accepted.
Fee: £10 per student includes lunch, refreshments and repographic services.
