Professor David Owen Norris and pianists from the Department of Music at the University of Southampton present extracts from J B Cramer’s Studio per il pianoforte (London 1804), perhaps the earliest set of specialist piano etudes. The performances will be given on Chawton House Library’s Stodart Patent Compensating Grand Piano, a type of instrument very familiar to Cramer. Cramer is the only composer named in Jane Austen’s novels. Il Studio per il pianoforte has been digitized and is available on the Southampton University Library website.
