An Introduction to Collections Care

This is a comprehensive introductory session to help you with all aspects of caring for your collection. The day will be a mix of lectures, discussions and desk-based activities. Handouts will be provided for each delegate.
Who should attend?
Volunteers and paid staff who work with any sort of museum collection who would like to learn the basics of caring for objects.
What will you learn?
You will know the main risks facing objects in museums, how items should be handled, stored and displayed as well as simple ways to improve conditions.
You will also learn how to plan collection care, monitor the environment and safeguard against pests.
You are welcome to bring problem items (or photos) for discussion.
Helena Jaeschke, ACR, is an accredited objects conservator who trained in archaeological conservation. As the Conservation Development Officer for the South West, she provides free advice and support for all the museums in the region.
