The app market is one of the fastest growing industries in history and becoming a part of it is far easier than you think. Mumsnet Academy is delighted to be teaming up with Honda and #techmums to bring you an interactive workshop where you too can learn how to design an app.
Starting with the very basics of what an app is through to designing your own, this course is ideal for complete novices and the more tech savvy! During the course you will also be given a unique login for the #techmums online community, which you can access after the course has finished and use to keep in contact with your coursemates. Run by the fabulous Dr. Sue Black, award-winning computer scientist and founder of #techmums this course will soon have you on your way to becoming the next appreneur.
The course explores:
-What is an app? -Looking at different types of apps -Studying successful and well known apps -Important things to consider when designing an app -Your app’s potential-what is the problem you want to solve? -The first stages in app design -Working on app design-individually and in groups -Show and tell of your ideas -Your #techmums community account- how to use it and what are the benefits?
Sue Black is an award-winning computer scientist and radical thinker, who brings people together to solve complex issues. She's a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Computer Science at University College London and is a champion for women in computing.
Sue founded the #techmums training programme and enterprise for social good Savvify with the aim to empower people through technology. Sue is a frequent public speaker, a social media-holic, and dedicated Bletchley Park campaigner.
This course will take place at The Honda Institute, the home of people development for Honda in the UK. This 45,000 square foot facility is a shining light both in and beyond the automotive industry, with its acclaimed Apprenticeship Programme rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted last year. The Institute delivers a staggering 25,000 people-training days each year, and recently celebrated the recruitment of its one thousandth apprentice.
There is parking available free of charge and Honda can also provide a shuttle service to the Institute from Slough, Windsor, Langley or Datchet train stations upon request. All refreshments and lunch will be provided.

A while back we asked you what courses you would like and the programme of masterclasses, workshops, and events we've come up with is a reflection of your responses.
To help us deliver the programme we have enlisted some fabulous experts in a range of fields as well as teaming up with some great partners who have a reputation for delivering high-quality, life-changing courses.
This collaborative approach allows us to offer a programme across a range of different subjects including entrepreneurship, business, technology, social media, blogging, history of art, creative writing, publishing, gardening, philosophy, finance, fashion as well as courses concerned with self-improvement and the concept of learning to live wisely and well. Some of these courses will be skill-based, while others will explore concepts, theory and ideas.

One of the things that we felt was important was to ensure our Academy courses are available across the UK and we are pleased to announce that we will be running events in Birmingham, Edinburgh, London and Manchester from day one. We are also keen to develop some online courses and hope to announce the first of these later this year.
While our courses are scheduled at times which are more convenient for those with young children, they are absolutely open to everyone. Ultimately, the overall aim of the Mumsnet Academy is to bring people together in a thought-provoking and fulfilling environment where there is a universal willingness to explore ideas, develop skills, and learn from experts as well from each other.
