A one-day seminar and conversation about the role of cultural activism in promoting social cohesion.
The day will bring together speakers from organisations, initiated by activists or artists, whose purpose has been to promote and effect peace and civil freedoms; stories about non-violent resolution in the face of conflict, confrontation and injustices within contemporary society.
Speakers include: Erinma Bell (Manchester peace activist and co-founder of CARISMA), Karen Lyons (Artist and co-founder of Guns to Goods), Nick Mirzeoff (Professor at New York Steinhardt University and activist with Black Lives Matter), Ruth Daniel (Director of In Place of War and academic and researcher at Manchester University).

Guns to Goods supports community initiatives in crime reduction through melting down illegal firearms seized or taken through amnesty by Greater Manchester Police, and symbolically converting the metal into fresh artefacts of aesthetic value.
