Event Details

In recent years BDSM has become more main stream and discussed/practiced after 50 Shades of Grey, The Secretary etc. The sale of nipple clamps went up by 2000% and lots of “grey” babies were born. New people were introduced to BDSM and yet thousands of people were already practicing at home or in the scene.

“The APA has made it clear that being kinky is not a mental disorder,” says Susan Wright, Spokesperson for NCSF. That means people no longer have to fear being diagnosed as mentally ill just because they belong to a BDSM group. Yet in a recent survey of BDSM’ers undertaken by Deborah Fields, out of 200 people who currently attend therapy, 106 of them DO NOT tell their therapist about their BDSM. So why is that? Their answers were fear, judgement, legality and defence. That’s a huge impact on the therapeutic relationship.

This is a workshop about BDSM, the terminology, legality and use of kink.  We will consider the avoidance of mentioning sexual practices, specific issues that BDSM'ers might bring to the relationship, how to work effectively with them and how your own sexual preference, experience and culture may influence your thinking and practice. We will look at the counter transference issues in the therapeutic relationship.

Deborah Fields BA (Hons) PG Dip is a counsellor and supervisor. She is also a psychotherapist in training having completed her 4 training years in Transactional Analysis and has over 10,000 client hours.  She runs a monthly healthy mental practices workshop once a month in the bdsm community (London Alternative market) and has done you tube interviews and workshops at sexpo, sexhibition and eroticon. She is also the Training Director of an eating disorders clinic and has a private practice.

Cancellation Policy: 50% refund will be given on cancellations with more than 7 days’ notice.

This workshop is non residential but there is local  accommodation available from £35 per night.
