Bedfordshire International Systemic Spring School

Brathay Hall, Ambleside, Lake District, UK

26th - 28th April 2017
(optional Writing Retreat on 29th & 30th April)

Kimberley Dark     Glenda Fredman   Taiwo Afuape   Marco Gemignani

Gail Simon     Ravi Kohli    Birgitte Pedersen

This is slow conferencing. For people who want to reflect with others, have deep dialogue and walk and talk by the shores of Lake Windermere.

If you are interested in aspects of systemic, social constructionist, dialogical, narrative, appreciative and collaborative ways of inquiring, this may be for you. This event reframes everyday reflexive practice as a form of collaborative inquiry, action research. It is an opportunity to look again, as if for the first time, and see what we learn about our own practice, ourselves and each other through dialogue and connecting, using foreign and indigenous ways of knowing, through performance and play, and just being in the stunning landscape of the English Lake District.

This event is for people working across the leafy branches of systemic practice: organisational or team consultation, leadership, therapy, social work, education, coaching, social justice and community work.

Guest presenters:

Glenda Fredman

Glenda Fredman has inspired many systemic practitioners to practice with graceful reflexivity and develop carefully coordinated ways of communicating meaningfully with people. Her extensive contributions in organisational settings, as a trainer, therapist, consultant and as a writer establish her a leader in the systemic field.

Kimberly Dark

Kimberly is an international performer and storyteller addressing complex messages about power relations in social justice matters. Her performances inspire new learning through laughter, provocation, reflection and engagement with your life and others. Her workshops will invite practitioners to imagine and experiment with the performative aspects of their work and how they can share this in writings and presentations of their work. https://lnkd.in/e5Q2M2P

Taiwo Afuape

Being an African working class woman is central to my work as a Lead Clinical Psychologist and Systemic Psychotherapist for the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in South Camden Community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and for Central and North West London NHS Foundation trust in a Psychology/ Psychotherapy Adult Mental Health Department. Previously I have set up community psychology services for transitional populations – women escaping domestic violence, homeless people, people misusing substances, travelling communities of Roma and Irish heritage and refugee people – and worked for 7 years in a Human Rights charity for survivors of torture. I have also managed an adult mental health Systemic Service. In addition, I have written a book entitled Power, Resistance and Liberation in Therapy with Survivors of Trauma, as well as co-edited 2 books, one about Liberation Practices and the other about a responsive approach to working in an Urban CAMHS.

Marco Gemignani

Marco has written on the important topic of critical reflexivity, memory and compassion linking migration and psychological wellbeing; psychological, social, and cultural dimensions of trauma and its remembering. Marco is Associate Professor at Duquesne University, Pittsburgh and Universidad Loyola Andalucía, Seville. He is a regular presenter at the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry, a Taos associate and interested in narrative, constructivist and post-structuralist theory and practice.
