Event Details

Sept 12 – Recording the Country

Photo: JamesRavilious (c) Beaford Arts

James Ravilious the well-known photographer, spent over seventeen years in the 1970’s and 80’s recording life in North Devon, which was then a remarkably old-fashioned, traditional piece of countryside. His work forms the major part of the Beaford Archive, and includes landscapes, intimate portraits, farm work, buildings, day-to-day village life, and all sorts of special occasions – recorded with the eye of an artist, and the warmth of a humane and sympathetic man.

His widow Robin will show slides of his images and talk about him and his approach to his work. To be held at the Swan Hotel on September 12th.
