London, United Kingdom
Outstanding musicians from Britain and the Arab world perform a programme of music by Prokofiev, Succari and Rahbani that brings together Western and Arabic musical traditions.
Lebanese-born flautist Wissam Boustany has established an international career as a concert artist, touring the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and as a professor at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Vocalist Merit Ariane Stephanos and jazz pianist Alcyona Mick will explore Arabic and jazz traditions, drawing on the music of the legendary Lebanese singer, Fayrouz, and Arabic and Andalusian Mwashshahat (poetry).
Syrian pianist Riyad Nicolas is a rising star on the classical scene and has won numerous international prizes, and performed concertos with orchestras in the UK and the Middle East.
The programme includes Prokofiev's Flute Sonata Op 94., Francaix's Nocturne and Scherzo, Succari's Syrian Suite and Rahbani's Ana La Habibi.
All proceeds go directly to supporting British-Arab Exchanges's programmes in 2013, supporting young leaders in Egypt and the Palestinian territories. For more information, please view the charity's website www.bax.org.uk
