Description

British Feeding and Drinking Group 40th anniversary meeting - April 7/8 2016

NB: Deadline for registration is Monday 21st March 2016!

This conference is now sold out! (Weds 30th March 1800h BST)

Conference format:

The 2-day academic conference programme (approx. 0900 on 7th to 1700 on 8th) contains a keynote presentation and 10-min oral presentation slots (plus 5 min discussion). In addition there will be space for up to 50 poster presentations. The posters* will be on display throughout the conference in an adjoining room. A Scientific Committee of senior BFDG members will select oral and poster presentations based on submitted abstracts (for publication in Appetite).

The main conference dinner will be on Thursday 7th.

The final conference programme is available here.

Tips and information on travel, alternative accommodation and facilities in the local area are available here: tinyurl.com/bfdg2016-tips

*Poster guidance can be downloaded here.

FAQs (see below)

Ticket types:

NB: New tickets now available for those wishing to share a room. Approx. £100 saving per person on full 2 x 24-hr package.

Please pay careful attention to the ticket types you choose, and note the different versions for non-profit organisations versus industry. We have allowed various combinations to suit different needs, within the constraints of organisational requirements. If you are combining more than one ticket type, the registration form will allow you to copy your details automatically from the first ticket to the additional tickets. All purchases will be confirmed with the Lensbury by the organisers.

Please note that 24-hr packages also include access to the Lensbury facilities including an excellent swimming pool and gym. You are encouraged to choose a 24-hr package if possible.

The additional fee includes costs charged by Eventbrite for the online payment service and payment processing: regrettably BFDG has to pass this on to delegates. The fees are included in the total shown on the payment page.

Abstract submission: NB: Submissions for oral presentations are now closed (07.03.16)

Abstract submission is now open. Electronic submission of abstracts is required. Abstracts should be sent to bfdg2016@roehampton.ac.uk. Your abstract can now only be considered for poster presentation. In the body text, please let us know if you are a student or post-doc less than 5 years beyond your PhD.

Rules for abstract submission

  • Abstracts should be submitted as a Word document.
  • Abstracts must not exceed 280 words (including title, author name(s), one complete postal address and one email address, and any acknowledgements).
  • Do not include tables, figures, formulae and references (in-text citations only if really needed).
  • Omit professional and official titles in the author field.
  • Do not use indenting. Just use one continuous paragraph please.

Authors will be notified about the acceptance of their contribution by March 2, 2015. Abstracts submitted for consideration as oral presentations, for which there is no space in the programme of talks, will automatically be considered for poster presentation. However, if space becomes an issue, priority will be given in order of receipt. All selected abstracts will be collated in an abstract book.

Important dates:

  • December 7, 2015 - Opening of registration and abstract submission
  • January 29, 2016 - Deadline for abstract submission and PhD bursary applications
  • February 5, 2016 - Deadline for 100% refund of conference package costs
  • March 1, 2016 - Notification of abstract acceptance and assignment of oral/poster presentations
  • March 4, 2016 - Deadline for 50% refunds
  • March 21, 2016 - Registration closes

Accommodation:

We have block reserved 50 rooms at the Lensbury, though it is possible that more will be available. These will be reserved in order of your registration. If you have any concerns or queries, please contact the organiser at l.gibson@roehampton.ac.uk. However, please read the FAQs below first. FAQs:

What is the additional "fee"?

The fee is a cost charged by Eventbrite for payment processing: regrettably BFDG has to pass it on to delegates.

Can I update my registration information?

Yes, but to change your ticket type you will need to email l.gibson@roehampton.ac.uk. Reservations are not normally transferrable. Please also note the refund deadlines.

Student Bursaries

Although there is no reduced payment option for students, we are hoping to provide student bursaries for most student applicants, depending on level of sponsorship of the meeting, prioritised for those who apply for oral presentations (and for PhD students). These bursaries may be up to £150, and would in effect be refunds on your registration costs from BFDG.

On the Eventbrite site, once you click on the Order Now button, you will be asked if you are submitting an abstract. If you are, then you will be asked whether you wish to apply for a student bursary.

Can I book my hotel independently?

All conference reservations for The Lensbury (packages, dinners) for Wednesday 6th to Friday 8th April need to be done through this Eventbrite site. If you wish to stay at another hotel, you need to make the reservation yourself. The Travelodge, Teddington, is within walking distance and good value. A list of other places to stay can be found in the 'tips' document (tinyurl.com/bfdg2016-tips) or you can contact the organiser for suggestions.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

A more detailed document on travel options can be found here, but note the following:

  • The Lensbury is convenient for Heathrow Airport: buses X26 and 285 from Heathrow Central Bus Station stop nearby. See https://tfl.gov.uk/ for travel planning.
  • Train services to Teddington run about 4 per hour from Waterloo Station via Clapham Junction (where you can change from Gatwick Airport trains), taking 30-35 mins.
  • The Lensbury provides a shuttle bus from Teddington station at peak times (call the hotel to confirm arrival time); otherwise it is a pleasant 20-min walk through the High Street, or you can jump on a bus (281, 285, R68) a few stops to "Teddington Lock" stop. NB: Buses in London do not accept cash: you will need a contactless bank card or an Oyster card or Travel card.
  • Another convenient route is by train to Hampton Wick station, then cross the road to the bus stop for 281 or 285 to "Teddington Lock" stop.
  • Car parking is normally available for delegates at The Lensbury.

Can I see the programme?

The final programme is now available here.
