NB. To be eligible to attend this free event you should be from a northwest SME from the digital and creative sector. Priority will be given to Northwest based SMEs from the digital and creative sectors. Places can only be guaranteed to companies booked onto 3 or more briefings.
Utilising Location Based Services
A location-based services (LBS) is an information entertainment service, accessible with mobile devices through the mobile network and utilising the ability to make use of the geographical position of the mobile device. LBS can be used in a variety of contexts, such as health, work and personal life. This can involve identifying a location of a person or object and can also include mobile commerce when taking the form of coupons or advertising at customers based on their current location. Examples of interesting developments are 4 Squared, GroupOn, Place and Gowal.
This briefing will investigate how LBS can be applied to businesses, marketing and mobile technology and will explore how industry trends are developing with regards to LBS.

Dr. Reuben Edwards
Dr. Reuben Edwards is Lecturer in Mangement Infomation Systems and M-Commerce at Lancaster University. He has been at the forefront of innovative multimedia application development for over ten years and is renowned for his extensive knowledge of development environments across all platforms. Many of Reuben's research projects employ novel uses of technologies such as location based services, RFID, NFC, Bluetooth, Flash Lite, Qt, Maemo, MeeGo (software development platforms) using the iPhone and Android platforms. Reuben was also selected as one of 50 most talented mobile developers in the world (from a community of over 2 million) to be a founding Forum Nokia Champion since 2007.
