Description

Building the Teaching Excellence Framework

Wednesday 29 July 2015 - 11.30 – 13.30, London

Church House, Hoare Memorial Room, Dean's Yard, London, SW1P 3NZ

High quality teaching is critical to creating the world’s future leaders and problem solvers. This is something we are passionate about at University Alliance.

We welcome the new political focus on teaching excellence and would like to help the Government deliver its commitment to introduce a framework to recognise universities offering the highest quality teaching.

It is important we get this right – done well, it should incentivise many different kinds of teaching excellence and encourage innovation. If we get it wrong, it may become a burdensome bureaucratic exercise that incentivises the wrong kind of behaviour.

It is, of course, a difficult challenge. So we are holding a policy seminar to share the latest thinking and debate the issues. In particular, we will explore what the new policy is intending to achieve, the mechanisms for doing this and the pros and cons of each. We will have a series of inputs from policy makers and teaching experts to inform discussions on tables. The outputs from this session will feed into Government’s thinking as they develop the framework.

Speakers will include:

Professor Julie Lydon, Vice Chancellor University of South Wales and lead for Teaching & Learning at University Alliance - (confirmed)

Chris Millward, Director of Policy, HEFCE - (confirmed)

Maddy Desforges, Deputy Director, HE quality, access and governance, Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

With contributions from:

Charlie Roper, third year Politics student at UWE, Bristol, and former President of UWE’s students’ union

Ian Dunn, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience), Coventry University

Lunch will be provided as part of the event - please let us know if you have any dietary requirements.
