We will be featuring a keynote speech by Michael Jackson (not from beyond the grave), UCL alumnus and General Partner at Mangrove Capital Partners in Luxembourg. He has an incredible wealth of experience in tech, in entrepreneurship and in growing successful businesses. (See below for a fuller bio.)

Come meet your counterparts and others who are part of the UCL Advances family, have an opportunity to network and extend your reach, and hear how UCL Advances may be able to help support you further.

Keynote Speaker Biography

Michael Jackson graduated from UCL in 1984, after an undistinguished academic career - albeit one influenced by a persistent interest for the way people communicate.

The beginnings of cellular radio, mobile data, even mobile payment systems enabled by the way that communications indeed change and save lives took Michael onto the Internet in 1996.  He used the opportunities presented by a deregulating world to start competitive phone companies across Europe.  The roll out of Tele2 in Europe to 26 million customers together with the creation and establishment of 9 MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) operations in Europe were the training ground, and taught how the established way isn't always the only way.

With former colleagues, Michael hopped over to Chief Operations Officer role at Skype. Here, with special responsibility for all aspects of Skype's paid services, he led the organisation that took the company into €100M+ within three years.

Now, Michael is a General Partner at Mangrove Capital Partners. Active across all of Europe, Russia and Israel, he spends his time looking for investable projects and advising portfolio companies as they grow into significant operations.

Behind the scenes, Michael keeps in touch with the grass roots of new technology by spending spare time at various European Bootcamp type events - Startup Bootcamp in Denmark,  HackFwd in Germany  to name but two.
