Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), also known as virtual exchange or globally networked learning, is an innovative pedagogy that can deepen the global engagement of students locally, utilizing technology to link university classes in different countries. Using various online tools, students complete shared assignments and projects, with faculty members from each country co-teaching and managing coursework.
During this intensive hands-on workshop, instructors, learning technologists and international program administrators will develop COIL components to be implemented into their courses or programs.
Participants will:
- become familiar with the key components of COIL and the variety of ways the pedagogy can be implemented;
- practice using specific technology tools as a teacher and learner
- develop a draft plan for embedding a COIL module into their course or program.
No prior experience or international connections are required all levels of experience are welcomed. Participants are invited to bring a syllabus or a program description to work on.
