9-week course // Mondays, 6:30 – 9:30pm // Cost: £225 + cost of materials // Level: Pure Beginner and upwards (more advanced students see description below) // Instructor: Rachael Coghill FOAK, Contemporary Quilt Maker

Make your own cosy quilt using contemporary colour blocks and traditional techniques.

A homemade quilt is the sort of thing you can hold onto and treasure your entire life. And the process of designing and making your own quilt is detailed, rich, and rewarding; not to mention therapeutic!

In this 9 week course, led by Rachael Coghill of FOAK, we'll be introducing you to the basics of patchwork quilting and guiding you through the process of making your very own contemporary quilt. Topics covered will include patchwork blocks; machine quilting; traditional & contemporary quilting blocks; colour & pattern theory; and making & applying binding.

Rachel will be teaching on the use of squares and half-square-triangle blocks and also covering some contemporary colour theory. Students will then be given the choice to work from a pre-existing quilting pattern or develop one of their own.

Note to our Beyond Beginners: This is an opportunity for you to develop your design skills using new blocks and new ways of thinking about colour. If you've made a quilt before, there may be some very basic teaching that you're not obliged to take part in.
