This is a two hour course for people working with children and young people in West Sussex.
This course is being delivered through a partnership between Coastal West Sussex Mind, Grassroots Suicide Prevention, YMCA Downslink Group, West Sussex County Council, West Sussex CCGs, and Heath Education England.
What is The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - The Impact of Social Media?
You may have already noticed that being online a lot and spending loads of time on social media can be bad for your mental health and your wellbeing. Sometimes it can make us moody and it can give us FOMO (fear of missing out) when we see things we can't have or places we can't be. Even though it's a place to connect with others there is evidence to suggest it can also make us feel lonely and prone to being bullied.
This is a workshop led by young people who know how important social media is to them but are also aware of the ugly side of it too. It will encourage you and the young people you live and work with to think more about the impact of social media on everyday life.
Other participants have told us this workshop was the beginning of changing the way they thought about social media – we want to help make the internet a better place and our minds a better space.
What will I learn?
If you have ever thought about any of these issues concerning a young person’s use of social media then this workshop is for you:
- Are they happy with their social media use?
- Do people say they spend too much time online?
- Do they find it hard to concentrate or get other things done because of social media?
- Are they getting enough sleep?
- Can they trust everyone in their networks to uphold their privacy?
How will I learn?
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly is a 2 hour session. Accompanying the training is a short film made by young people.
