Event Details

Creative Cardiff's 'Show & Tell' is a quarterly event that gives a platform to the exciting range of creative people and projects in the city. It brings together Cardiff’s creative community, from emerging talent to old hands, to hear about their current projects and ambitions.

Each of the speakers will give a 10-minute lightning talk. And they'll bring an object. The object might be the source of their inspiration, a tool of their trade or a comfort blanket. The speakers will share their work and explain the importance of the object they've brought along.

The theme of our fourth Show & Tell event is creative hubs and co-working spaces – places where creative people can come together for networking, business, development and community engagement. Over the summer a number of new creative hubs and co-working spaces have opened in the city so what better time to find out more about the places on offer – and the people behind them.

Speakers

Dan Spain

Dan is a Cardiff-based designer and illustrator working across digital and print for a handful of really cool people.

In 2014 he started Design Stuff, creating a regular opportunity for designers to meet, share knowledge and make friends. Design Stuff is a monthly social event about design…stuff. Each month, two creative professionals talk about a topic of their choice, based in and around design. Speakers have covered topics ranging from 3D design, hand-drawn typography and the power of sketchbooks, through to social media design, working internationally and being taken over by robots! At Design Stuff the community gets together to listen to interesting people, have a few drinks, make some new friends and generally have a good time.

Building on conversations and collaborations initiated by Design Stuff, Dan set up Rabble Studio in June 2016; a co-working community space where creative people can collaborate and do great work.

Louise Harris

Louise is founder and director of the Big Learning Company, which delivers training, content and innovation projects in all areas of learning provision across Wales. Previously a drama teacher and a keen advocate of using technology as a teaching tool, she founded the Big Learning Company when saw that there was a gap in the market for a company that would support schools with expertise to roll out technology in the classroom.

In August 2016, Louise opened Cardiff co-working space Tramshed Tech, based in the newly-converted Tramshed music and arts venue building on the corner of Clare Road and Pendyris Street in Grangetown. Tramshed Tech aims to bring together the tech and creative industries, creating an environment in which people want to work together. Louise says: "Gone are the days where companies will want one huge tower block, where teams are isolated, locked in their own offices, where they can't really collaborate with anyone else. If businesses are going to survive and thrive in this really challenging environment that we’re in at the moment – especially here in a growing city like Cardiff - we have to work together creatively, to collaborate."

Louise is also currently working in collaboration with London Riverside Studios on the inaugural Edinburgh Digital Entertainment Festival (EDEF).

Sarah Valentin & Julia Haris

Sisters Sarah Valentin and Julia Harris opened The Sustainable Studio in July 2016. It’s taken almost a year to realise their idea - from finding a space to decorating - but it’s here and they are happy to be working alongside some amazing people already.

Sarah is a fashion designer and has worked in the industry for more than 15 years. Julia is a songwriter and musician who fell into fashion about seven years ago – a happy accident as together with sister Sarah she now runs DATI, a sustainable clothing brand that will launch later this year.

After starting an upcycling fashion label in 2011 and the success of selling at local markets in south Wales, Sarah and Julia began to run a selection of workshops focusing on recycling clothing waste and teaching basic sewing skills with the charities Barnardo’s, The Prince’s Trust and BAWSO to name just a few.

Over the last two years they have focused on nurturing local talent and supporting creative individuals with the sole aim to see them thrive. At the end of last year, they felt drawn to expand and create an inspiring and inclusive co-working space for like-minded individuals and businesses.

They hope others can benefit from the same support and encouragement they have experienced by being based at The Sustainable Studio. It’s a place to gather, learn, share skills, exchange ideas and knowledge, network, and collaborate on projects not just for business but for the benefit of the wider community.

Bydd ein tri siaradwr yn rhoi sgwrs gryno, pob un yn 10 munud o hyd. Ac fe fyddent yn dod â rhywbeth i'w ddangos. Gallai'r gwrthrych fod yr hyn sydd wedi'u hysbrydoli, yn declyn maent yn ei ddefnyddio yn eu gwaith, neu'n rhywbeth sy'n rhoi cysur iddynt. Bydd y siaradwyr yn rhannu eu gwaith ac yn esbonio pwysigrwydd eu gwrthrychau.

Canolfannau creadigol a mannau cydweithio yw thema ein pedwerydd digwyddiad Dangos a Dweud. Bydd y rhain yn cynnwys lleoedd y gall pobl greadigol ddod ynghyd i rwydweithio, ar gyfer busnes, datblygiad ac ymgysylltu â'r cyhoedd. Dros yr haf, mae nifer o ganolfannau creadigol a mannau cydweithio wedi eu hagor yn y ddinas, felly dyma’r amser delfydol i wybod rhagor am y lleoedd sydd ar gael a'r bobl sy'n eu cynnal.

Siaradwyr

Dan Spain

Mae Dan yn ddarlunydd a chynllunydd yng Nghaerdydd sy'n gweithio yn y cyfrwng digidol a phrint gyda llond llaw o bobl hynod ddiddorol.

Yn 2014, fe sefydlodd gwmni Design Stuff, sy'n rhoi cyfleoedd rheolaidd i gynllunwyr ymgynnull, rhannu gwybodaeth a dod i adnabod ei gilydd.

Mae Design Stuff yn ddigwyddiad misol am gynlluniau pob math o bethau. Bob mis, bydd dau weithiwr proffesiynol creadigol yn trafod pwnc o ddiddordeb ym maes cynllunio. Mae siaradwyr wedi trafod pynciau amrywiol megis cynllunio 3D, teipograffeg llaw a phŵer llyfrau braslunio, cynllunio ar wefannau cymdeithasol, gweithio'n rhyngwladol a chael robotiaid yn cymryd ein lle! Yn Design Stuff, mae'r gymuned yn dod ynghyd i wrando ar bobl ddiddorol, cael ambell ddiod hamddenol, gwneud cyfeillion newydd a mwynhau eu hunain yn gyffredinol.

Yn dilyn trafodaethau a phrosiectau ar y cyd a ysgogwyd gan Design Stuff, sefydlodd Dan Rabble Studio ym Mehefin 2016, sef man cydweithio i'r gymuned lle gall pobl greadigol weithio gyda'i gilydd i wneud gwaith gwych.

Louise Harris

Louise yw sylfaenydd cwmni Big Learning Company, sy'n cynnig hyfforddiant, cynnwys a phrosiectau arloesol ym mhob maes addysgu ledled Cymru.

Mae Louise hefyd newydd agor man cydweithio yng Nghaerdydd o'r enw Tramshed Tech. Fe’i leolir yn hen adeilad y Tramshed sydd wedi cael ei drawsnewid ar Heol Clare a Stryd Pendyris yn Grangetown. Amcan Tramshed Tech yw dod â'r diwydiannau technoleg a chreadigol ynghyd, a chreu amgylchedd sy'n annog cydweithio.

Mae Louise hefyd yn cydweithio â London Riverside Studios ar agoriad Gŵyl Adloniant Ddigidol Caeredin.

Sarah Valentin a Julia Harris

Agorodd y chwiorydd Sarah Valentin a Julia Harris The Sustainable Studio ym mis Gorffennaf 2016. Mae wedi cymryd bron i flwyddyn i wireddu eu syniad – gan gynnwys dod o hyd i adeilad a'i addurno – ond maen nhw wedi cyrraedd diwedd y daith ac yn hapus i fod yn gweithio ochr yn ochr â nifer o bobl wych yn barod.

Dylunydd ffasiwn yw Sarah, ac mae wedi gweithio yn y diwydiant ers mwy na 15 mlynedd. Cyfansoddwr a cherddor yw Julia a syrthiodd i fyd ffasiwn tua saith mlynedd yn ôl – damwain ffodus, oherwydd ynghyd â'i chwaer Sarah mae hi bellach yn rhedeg DATI, sef brand dillad cynaliadwy a fydd yn lansio'n hwyrach eleni.

Ar ôl dechrau label ffasiwn uwchgylchu yn 2011, a chael llwyddiant yn gwerthu mewn marchnadoedd lleol yn ne Cymru, dechreuodd Sarah a Julia weithdai a oedd yn canolbwyntio ar ailgylchu dillad gwastraff ac addysgu sgiliau gwnïo sylfaenol gydag elusennau Barnardo's, Ymddiriedolaeth y Tywysog a BAWSO, ag enwi ond ychydig.

Dros y ddwy flynedd ddiwethaf, maen nhw wedi canolbwyntio ar feithrin doniau pobl leol ac ar gynorthwyo pobl greadigol, gyda'r nod o'u gweld yn ffynnu. Tua diwedd y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, teimlodd y chwiorydd y dylent ehangu'r fenter a chreu gofod ar gyfer cydweithio sy'n ysbrydoli unigolion a busnesau â'r un egwyddorion.

Maen nhw'n gobeithio y bydd pobl eraill yn gallu elwa o'r un cymorth ac anogaeth maen nhw wedi'u cael drwy weithio yn The Sustainable Studio. Man i gasglu, dysgu, rhannu sgiliau, cyfnewid syniadau a gwybodaeth, rhwydweithio a chydweithio ar brosiectau yw hwn, a hynny nid yn unig at ddibenion busnes, ond hefyd er lles y gymuned ehangach.

Os oes gennych unrhyw ofynion arbennig ar gyfer mynediad i'r digwyddiad hwn, anfonwch neges ebost at creativecardiff@caerdydd.ac.uk.

Organiser

Creative Cardiff

Creative Cardiff is a new city-wide network which connects people working in any creative organisation, business or job. By encouraging people to work together we believe that we can make Cardiff the most creative place it can be.

We hope that this network will enable its members to connect, discover new ideas, build their audience, promote their work, find new opportunities and work with new people. We believe our network can generate new visions and stories to promote and enhance the city’s creative economy.

Rhwydwaith newydd y ddinas yw Caerdydd Creadigol sy’n cysylltu pobl sy’n gweithio mewn unrhyw sefydliad, busnes neu swydd greadigol. Trwy annog pobl i gydweithio, credwn y gallwn ychwanegu at greadigrwydd dinas Caerdydd.

Gobeithiwn y bydd y rhwydwaith hwn yn galluogi ei aelodau i gysylltu, darganfod syniadau newydd, adeiladu ei chynulleidfa, hyrwyddo eu gwaith, dod o hyd i gyfleoedd ffres a gweithio gyda phobl newydd. Credwn y gall ein rhwydwaith greu gweledigaethau a straeon newydd i hyrwyddo a diwygio economi greadigol y ddinas.
