Description

International Institute of St. Louis is hosting a free training event on cultural competence for health care providers. Emerging refugee population in St Louis include Somalis, Burmese, Congolese, and Bhutanese. If you are a health care provider,come join us for a free workshop where you will learn more about the refugee resettlement process and barriers faced by refugees when accessing health care. If you're up to date on cultural competence, we still need you to join us and share with other attendees on how you apply cultural competence in everyday practice. International Institute will offer all those who attend, a provider toolkit, tour of our facility, and an attendance certificate. All for free!

Fungai Mapurisa is a native of Zimbabwe, and has been living in the U.S. since 2010. She has a Master of Social Work degree from Washington University in St. Louis. She is currently serving as an AmeriCorps Vista at the International Institute's social work department where she is responsible for developing programs and conducting trainings on cultural competence for health care providers. Apart from her work at the International Institute, she is a board member of Vitendo for Africa, a non-profit that serves African immigrants in St. Louis. Fungai is also a member of The Network for Social Work Management and a guest reviewer on the editorial board of the Journal of Social Service Research. Fungai describes herself as a social justice advocate and a macro social worker. She enjoys jogging, hiking, and data mining.
