British Council, FutureEverything and Nikola-Lenivets art park present Culture Shift Russia: Digital Emulsion hackathon which will take place at Nikola-Lenivets from 23rd to 25th May 2014.
This is a second event in the framework of Culture Shift Russia programme which was successfully launched at Strelka Institute for Media, Architecture and Design in September 2013. After the first hackathon which was devoted to the smart use of the open data by various cultural institutions we aremoving from the general idea of combining art and culture with digital technologies to the very particular practical subject.
This time the participants of the hackathon will create generative visual installations at the large scale festival, The Night of New Media which will take place in Nikola-Lenivets on 5th July 2014. Hundreds of people will join together for the all-night long show to celebrate the possibilities of new media art in natural environment. The main point of attraction will be an architectural object called Digital Mind where the DJs and electronic musicians from all over the world will be playing and where the laser show will be held.
The participants of Culture Shift Russia: Digital Emulsion, which will be a 48-hour long intensive workshop, will work out creative concepts and prototypes for the festival together with British artists Kimchi and Chips (Mimi Son and Elliot Woods) and a senior member of FutureEverything, the R&D hub for digital culture, Tom Higham.
We invite specialists of vvvv, coders, hackers, programmers and audio visual artists to take part in the Culture Shift Russia: Digital Emulsion workshop.
* Please note if you want to take part in Culture Shift Russia: Digital Emulsion, you must commit to attend the whole programme. This includes Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday.
On 23rd May (Friday) the selected participants will travel from Moscow to the art park in Kaluga region where they will meet each other and have a brief introduction on the project.
24th – 25th (Saturday - Sunday) of May will be the days of intensive work facilitated by the experts. It will be a 48-hour long session where group work will change with general sessions and practical workshops. On 24th May in the evening the participants will present the results of their work to the jury panel which will select the winner.
On 26th May (Monday) the group will go back from Nikola-Lenivets to Moscow.
Transfer, accommodation (hostel) and meals during the event will be provided for the participants for free as well as the vvvv platforms and custom softwares. If you require any specific equipment please feel free to take it with you. As the event will take several days, please take all the necessary things to feel comfortable.
Participation in the workshop will be free of charge.
The workshop will be in English with no translation.

Kimchi and Chips is a Seoul based art and design studio founded by Elliot Woods (UK) and Mimi Son (South Korea). They are known for discovering novel interactions involving people and media materials, discovering new technical and artistic paradigms. They formed in 2009 to combine the disciplines of code, form, material, concept and mechanism. They create installations and dialogues which have been exhibited on four continents. They create an emulsion of imagined reality within our physical world, in order to develop natural interactions between people, nature and the possibilities of the digital network.
