Description

Registration from 9.30-10.30

End of day 5.00, with final networking 5.00-5.30.

The British Museum would like to invite colleagues from across the UK to attend a free one day conference focusing on the Curator of the Future.

By bringing together a range of speakers and opinions the conference will be an opportunity to showcase current sector activity and explore how this sheds light on current curatorial practices and the skills it requires. It is also an opportunity to discuss how the role of the Curator of the Future will evolve, what opportunities this brings, and how we can ensure practice and activity remains relevant and sustainable.

The event is free to attend and open to anyone working in or with UK Museums and welcomes delegates from any career level and a wide range of roles and experiences, such as curatorial, learning, engagement, outreach, digital, and events.

Lunch will be provided and a limited number of bursaries will be made available to assist with travel costs for individuals or institutions, these will be assessed on an individual needs basis for anyone who would like to attend but cannot afford the travel cost.

Three key themes for the day are set out below, with further speakers and details to be released nearer the conference date:

  • The Curatorial Survival Kit- what should be in the curatorial survival kit to survive and thrive in a changing professional landscape?

  • A Brave New World- new technology, digital, and income generation, what are the impacts and opportunities for curatorial practice?

  • The Next Generation- how can we support the current and future curatorial workforce?

Organised by

The British Museum works in collaboration with an extensive partnership of organisations across the UK to ensure its collection and knowledge are shared with the broadest audience.

These initiatives include Touring Exhibitions, the Portable Antiquities Scheme and outreach projects, which contribute to the enjoyment and sharing of culture around the country and reach diverse communities in rural and urban locations. We also provide training and skills development for sector professionals through our Knowledge Share Programme, for the public through the Portable Antiquities Scheme and for young people through our programme of paid traineeships.
