Current legal issues affecting victims of trafficking
Date and time
Location
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer
65 Fleet Street London EC4Y 1HS United KingdomDescription
Join us to talk about issues that are facing victims of trafficking as they try to secure their legal status in the UK, pursue claims against the people who have exploited them or just go about their daily lives.
We want to raise awareness of some legal issues we have come across recently. We also want to hear from participants about your experiences and share ideas about how to act if these problems arise again. We hope it will also be an opportunity to make connections with other people working in this area.
Date: Monday 19th October 6.30-8.30pm (starting from 6 pm with refreshments)
Venue: Central London (Freshfields)
Speakers:
Jamila Duncan-Bosu (Anti Trafficking and Labour Exploitation Unit) - Compensation claims and problems getting legal aid funding
Paul Yates (Freshfields) - enforcement of compensation claims
Kate Roberts (Kalayaan) - The new immigration rules on domestic workers who are recognised as victims of trafficking
Alison Harvey/Zoe Harper (Immigration Law Practitioners' Association) - The Immigration Bill 2015
Frances Trevena (Poppy Legal) and Carita Thomas (ATLEU) - Consent of victims of trafficking to their participation in NRM processes and the disclosure of information by the Competent Authority (to open to the floor to discussion)
