Event Details

Join us at the Guardian for a weekend of data wrangling, visualising and challenging questions. Bringing together hacks and hackers, developers and development experts, we want to answer interesting and difficult questions about international development – and in the process, demonstrate the value of the amazing amount of new data that is now available.

We want to answer questions about development spending, results, projects and locations and start to understand how open data can help improve development outcomes.

The weekend will look something like this (but it's flexible, and let us know if you've got other ideas):

Saturday

10:00 - registration, stickers

10:30 - presentations of challenges

11:00 - get into groups, start working on one of the challenges (or anything else you're interested in); developers start committing their code as soon as possible

13:00 - lunch (will be provided)

17:00 - time to share: photos, drawings, brainstorms, essays, code, apps are all recorded - developers should commit their code, so that we don't lose anything

17:30 - happy hour at a local pub

Sunday

10:00 - arrivals

10:30 - brief presentations from the previous day's activities; new attendees can join groups and start working on the previous day's challenges, or work on something totally different.

13:00 - lunch (will be provided)

16:30 - time to share: photos, drawings, brainstorms, essays, code, apps are all recorded - developers should commit their code, so that we don't lose anything

17:00 - presentations of what everyone produced over the weekend - from slick and polished apps, to very rough prototypes, to bits of code that do interesting things, to fantastic regressions and beautiful photos - we'd like as many people as possible to tell us:

a) what they accomplished

b) what they didn't accomplish, and what they would need to do that

c) what they're going to do next

18:00 - happy hour at a local pub

Obviously, it's great if you can be there from the start - but it's not a problem if you can't. Join a group, fork a repo, grab some stickers and find people who need your skills and join in.
