Arts 4 Dementia

Arts 4 Dementia was founded in 2011 to develop a learning stream for arts venues to provide weekly workshops to re-energise people affected by dementia from diagnosis, their families and carers.

We believe that people with dementia, like the rest of us, have the right to enjoy their lives to the full.

Engagement with artistic activity inspires and gives new direction to people with dementia and enables them to restore and develop new creative skills.

Our mission is to enable people with dementia to live better and longer at home and to enjoy with their family carers a fulfilling creative life in the community.

We work with leaders in the field and major arts venues to encourage high-quality artistic events for people with dementia and their carers, and to present an innovative, vital opportunity for continuing professional development, and with the Alzheimer's Society to deliver early-stage dementia awareness training for arts facilitators.

Since our London Arts Challenge in 2012 programme of weekly arts activities, covering art, dance, South Asian Dance, scriptwriting and drama, media, music, photography and poetry at 17 arts venues around the capital, which was awarded the London 2012 Inspire mark, its evaluation Reawakening the Mind has provided useful quantitative and qualitative evidence to describe the benefits by art form on dementia type, the first multiple art form resource with models by art form, for activities for early-stage dementia.
