Emergency First Aid at Work 

CPR training

Duration: 

This course involves at least 6 hours of training and is run over one day.

Course Content:

On completion of the training, successful candidates should be able to:

  • Understand the role of the first aider including reference to:
    • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
    • The importance of preventing cross infection
    • The need for recording incidents and actions
    • The use of available equipment
    • Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency.
    • Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure)
    • Administer CPR
    • Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
    • Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding
    • Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
    • Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters)

How long will this course take?

This course involves at least 6 hours of training and is run over one day.

Will I get a recognised First Aid certificate?

This is a regulated qualification that is provided through an awarding organisation that is recognised and regulated by one of the UK regulators (e.g. Ofqual in England, SQA accreditation in Scotland). The certificate of achievement awarded to successful learners will contain the logo of our Awarding Body and the relevant UK regulators along with the full qualification title and number.

Do I need to requalify after three years?

To meet the requirements of the HSE those nominated as Emergency First Aiders in the Workplace should complete this qualifications every 3 years.

Do I have to undertake an annual refresher training?

HSE strongly recommends that first-aiders undertake annual refresher training, This will help qualified first-aiders maintain their basic skills and keep up to date with any changes to first-aid procedures.

Is there an assessment at the end of the course?

There is an ongoing written and practical assessment conducted by the instructor. 

The training is in line with the latest UK resuscitation guidelines from the Resuscitation Council (UK) as published on 18th October 2010 by the HSE.
