Event Details

Maria Gallucci will explain how companies have been responding to their implementation of the National Living Wage in April 2016.  There have been articles showing employers making reductions to existing payments such as overtime multipliers or to benefits such as pension contributions.  Some organisations are now asking staff to pay for their uniforms.

Organisations who had responded to consultation before the increased pay rate, believed they would improve productivity to absorb the increased costs.  So far, few organisations have achieved this ambition.  Organisations have taken short-term actions to reduce the effect on their staff costs and consequent reduction in profits.  They have not considered the long-term effect of these behaviours on their staff.  She will remind us of the relevant legislation when changing terms and conditions and explain how employers can better manage cost reductions when they are needed for business reasons.  She will explain the practicalities of adding to existing practices, policies and procedures to be effective employers who can demonstrate their contribution to continuing employee engagement

This event forms part of a series under the running title "Creating Harmony" offering members a range of topical subjects for both generalists and specialists.  You will be supporting your Continuing Professional Development because through working with the facilitator, you will understand how to be:

  • Purposeful: designing and managing effective processes which benefit employees and the organisation
  • Agile: managing the tensions between employee costs and engagement
  • Collaborative: learning from good practices in organisations
  • Expert: explaining the benefits from more effectively managing changes to terms and conditions

Professional photography and video production will be taking place at the event, and these images may be used on future promotional materials for CIPD. Please note that by attending the event, you are giving your consent for your image to be used on any CIPD promotional materials.
