Features are the centrepiece of any magazine or newspaper supplement – the stories given the most space to be deep and insightful, eye-catching and revelatory, absorbing and entertaining.
In this practical two-day Masterclass you'll get expert insight from writers and editors, and learn both the mechanics of feature journalism – from pitching to editing – and the art of writing a great piece. Guest speakers include Guardian feature writers and the editors who commission them.
The Masterclass will cover:
- making first contact with commissioning editors
- how to pitch (and how not to)
- analysing publications to work out what they're looking for
- different feature structures, treatments and formats
- tone and style
- how to improve your writing and self-edit
You'll leave with plenty of feedback, plus two feature pitches, and suggestions of titles to send them to.
