Film screening of 'In the Land of the Free' with former Black Panther and political prisoner Robert King.
Tuesday, 16 October 2012 from 19:00 to 21:30 (BST)
London, United Kingdom
Bindmans LLP, Tooks Chambers and 7 Bell Yard Chambers are pleased to bring acclaimed documentary 'In the Land of the Free' together with freed political prisoner Robert King for a compelling evening for those in the legal profession.
Robert, who has spent 32 years incarcerated, 29 in solitary confinement continues to campaign for the release of his Black Panther comrades Herman Wallace and Albert Woodfox (known as the Angola 3), now in their 40th year almost entirely in solitary. Bringing attention to the US Government's policy of targeting resistance groups, from the indigenous American Indians, Puerto Rican independence movement and today's environmental action movement, Robert offers his own personal experience.
Joined for a panel discussion and Q&A by film director Vadim Jean, Bindmans' Mike Schwarz, Joel Bennathan QC from Tooks Chambers and Elizabeth Lamber from 7 Bell Yard Chambers, this evening promises to discuss the real challenges facing activists and their lawyers today.
A reception will follow the discussion.
