Filmonik Halloween "Gorilla" Micro Kabaret
Thursday, 27 October 2011 at 19:00 - Sunday, 30 October 2011 at 23:30 (BST)
Manchester, United Kingdom
Halloween is coming; a time of ghosts, ghouls and things that go bump in the night. What better time for Filmonik to hold its first themed event - a special horror, Sci-Fi and fantasy "Gorilla" Micro Kabaret. Why not make those bad dreams of yours a reality? Join us for an exhilarating white knuckle ride of cinematic creation on the mean streets of Manchester and Salford!
The "Gorilla" Micro Kabaret is part creative jam session, part cinematic bootcamp: three whole days of flat out, peddle-to-the-metal 24/7 guerrilla filmmaking; a chance for filmmakers, writers, actors, musicians, artists and creatives of all types to come together in a spirit of creative collaboration, to put their inventiveness, ability to improvise and eye for an opportunity to the test, and to have fun with film.
Whatever your skill or interest, the Micro Kabaret has something to offer. For Directors, it’s a chance to hook up with actors, writers, cameramen and editors, for cameramen, sound techs and editors, it’s a chance to hone your skills in a high-pressure environment, pair up with directors, and start working as part of a filmmaking team. For writers, it’s a chance to workshop ideas with actors and get that script on screen. For musicians and composers, it’s a chance to try your hand at scoring a film, or performing on camera. For actors, it’s an opportunity to improvise and workshop characters and gain invaluable experience working with different types of directors and an array of varying dramatic roles. For every participant, it’s an opportunity to build up material for your show reels, to collaborate with new people, and network. Taking part in Mini-Kabaret films often leads to future projects and work outside of Filmonik. But you only get out of it what you put in - so get involved and push your talents to the max!

All film work created during the Micro Kabaret must be screened first at the Micro Kabaret. Should there be insufficient time for it to be screened, due to the number of films, it must screen at the next Filmonik open screening before it can be screened elsewhere.
While filmmakers are encouraged to use the Micro Kabaret to network, form new creative and collaborative partnerships, and develop relationships that they may draw on in their future filmmaking, films made during the Micro Kabaret are FOR the Micro Kabaret. We will not look kindly upon people who use the event as a means of getting others to use their Micro Kabaret time to work on films that are intended for some other purpose. Films created for the Micro Kabaret can certainly subsequently be screened elsewhere, and work created can be incorporated into other projects later. But only if everyone who worked on the film agrees to their work being used in this way, and so long as all are credited and the film’s / section of the film’s origins at the Micro Kabaret are acknowledged.

When & Where
Filmonik: Kino Manchester
Filmonik is an open screening platform for the North West’s independent filmmakers, be they Industry Professionals, self-styled Media Guerrillas, or relative novices still finding their creative voice. Emphasising resourcefulness and raw talent over polish and high production values, Filmonik provides an open door and a warm welcome for those making films with the minimum of means.
Filmmaking is the most technologically dependent of all art forms, and it is one of the objectives of Filmonik to provide an environment in which the normal barriers of film production are broken down. Collaboration is encouraged to the hilt, and screenings serve as a meeting place for individuals of all disciplines within film – writers, actors directors, musicians to name but a few. Filmonik also works to raise the aspirations and confidence of filmmakers who are at the start of their careers by providing the opportunity to receive feedback, advice and encouragement from individuals more experienced in the field.
