3 days celebrating entrepreneurship and what it takes to be an entrepreneur @ Hub Westminster

For entrepreneurs by entrepreneurs

Thursday 20 September | Friday 21 September | Saturday 22 September

Entrepreneurship is hard, it's lonely, it's risky... It's not for everyone!

Do you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Do you know what it takes to be an entrepreneur? Or are you just looking for inspiration and guidance?

Founder Camp is a 3 day event organised by Academy at the HUB and Hub Westminster, together with the London Hubs (Hub Kings Cross and Hub Islington), to celebrate entrepreneurship and what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

You will find guidance, challenge, support, inspiration. You will meet a variety of actors in the startup scene. You will meet many other entrepreneurs, whether tech, creative, social or other. Everyone is doing something better, bigger with their time and skills!

Come with ideas... Leave with a plan. The rewards can be immense. But don't let us spoil the party - come hear it from the founders themselves!

Here's some of the amazing organizations supporting Founder Camp:

WORKSHOP 1 - THE FOUNDER AND THE ENTREPRENEURIAL TEAM

What it takes to be an entrepreneur. Finding co-founders. What makes entrpreneurial teams work. How to identify people for your team. Who are the other stakeholders and why/how they are important.

Starting a new venture is hard. Doing it alone is even harder. Did you know that startups with both technical and business cofounders raise 30% more money and scale up to 3.2 times faster than one-person startups? If you are looking for a co-founder or you want to join a startup in the founding team, this workshop can help you accelerate and optimise the selection process. We will look at personality and skill-set as fundamental elements in starting a new venture. This will be a practical workshop in which we will discuss tools that can help you identify the right founding team for your startup.

Itxaso del Palacio, Teaching Fellow Msc Tech Entrepreneurship UCL; co-founder FoundersFit; Investment analyst EC1 Capital

12.00-13.30

WORKSHOP 2 - FUNDING YOUR SOCIAL VENTURE

Who is funding social enterprises? What are the characteristics/criteria they are looking for? Are the process/language/metrics/milestones different? What is changing in the profile of startups/investments? What has been the experience so far? In this open discussion, leading investors in social ventures, ClearlySo and UnLtd, will take us through the process, the requirements, the profile of investments in social ventures, in how they differ or not from investments in other ventures. The conversation will be guided by Kyra Phillips, author of upcoming book the Misfit Economy (Simon & Schuster) and Sandbox Ambassador.

If you are starting a social venture or a venture that clearly articulates, implements, delivers responsibility, sustainability or social improvement, come along and find out how and where to fund it.

Simon Evill, ClearlySo
Gareth Zahir-Bill, UnLtd

WORKSHOP 3 - FUNDING YOUR VENTURE

Paul has been a regular presence at the Academy at the Hub. His practical, straighforward approach has helped many entrepreneurs understand the process and prioritise. He will provide a thorough overview of the funding process, covering issues like: who you should approach, the different stages of funding, crowdfunding techniques and options, approaches to raising angel capital, how to get seen by investors, what angel investors are looking for, where to find angel investors, whether to spend your time applying for a bank loan, alternative debt options, VC funding and whether it's for you, the types of VCs you should approach, how to seek Grant funding and many others.

You are invited to come with your own questions!

We are hosting a gorup of 8 to 10 founders who have recently been successful in raising between 100k and 800k in seed funding for their startups, such as Jonathan Agnes of Foodity, Manuel Ho of RedZebra, Ian Strang of Buzzboard, Barnaby Clark of Planvine, Ian MacMillan of North Sea Recovery, Irina Pafamova and Alexey Andriyanenko of Shopitize, Simon Walker of Glopho, Glenn Shoesmith of BookingBug and possibly one or two other seed-funding successes, who will share their experiences with us.

The panel will be followed by fundraising round-tables, where, if you are currently fundraising, you will be able to discuss fundraising and other issues with each panelist and possibly one or two of their investors in an informal conversation.

Please note the panel and round-tables are free but attendance to the panel is mainly intended for entrepreneurs currently fundraising.
