From biomass to bioenergy, materials and products: boosting the EU’s bio-based economy through cross-border collaboration
Thursday 10 October 2013, 09.00-13.30
Wales House, Rond-Point Schuman 11, 1040 Brussels
The transition to a sustainable, bio-based economy is a major challenge facing Europe. Our current reliance on fossil and non-renewable resources causes depletion of our natural resources and increases environmental pressures. In the alternative bio-based economy, biomass replaces non-renewable resources for the sustainable production of fuels, energy, materials and products.
This workshop will discuss how territorial cooperation can help to add value to the development of the bio-based economy by:
- adding value to biotechnology RTD, via the sharing of knowledge and data and establishing joint innovative pilot facilities;
- facilitating transnational and regional policy interactions, and roadmapping for future bio-based cooperation initiatives;
- supporting cross-border innovation and business development via information signposting, professional training and education across the biotechnology delivery chain.
