Session #2 is booked solid!
Sorry about that! But never mind, feel free to add your name to the waiting list, and more tickets may become available.
We're continuing our GamesDev Sessions, a series of quarterly lectures in South Wales for anyone interested in the video games industry.
The Sessions are a set of free talks by games development professionals aimed at giving insight into all sorts of aspects of game creation, from game design to financing, from coding to visual effects, from publishing to narrative design. We'll be bringing in speakers from all over the industry - indies, AAA, education, trade bodies, government.
This session's talks will be from:
- Andrew Walsh, Freelance Games Writer and Director.
- Kim Blake, Next Gen Talent Development Coordinator for Creative Skillset and UKIE
We're partnering with BAFTA Cymru to hold this event in Cineworld. Arrive from 7pm, and the talks will begin at 7.30pm in Screen 15 and last around 45 minutes each, including Q&A sessions, with a short break between. Afterwards, you're welcome to join us in the upstairs bar to chat about the games development scene. Also for this session, thanks to the Royal Television Society Wales and Skillset Media Academy Wales, there will be some free drinks, and a chance to network with students and graduates from film, documentary, advertising and other areas.
Andrew Walsh: With more than sixty videogames credits to his name as a writer, speech designer, scriptwriter, script consultant, narrative designer, narrative director, motion capture director, voice over director and other assorted titles, Andrew has worked for companies including 2K Marin, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Bungie, 2K China, Criterion, Traveller’s Tales, Creative Assembly, Codemasters and Koch on titles including Need for Speed:Most Wanted, Prince of Persia, Harry Potter, LEGO City:Undercover, Risen, Medieval II: Total War, and SOCOM. He has numerous credits in animation, theatre, television, radio and film, including the UK version of Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva.
Kim Blake has worked in the games industry since 1993, for much of that time as a project manager at independent development studios such as Gremlin Interactive, Particle Systems and Argonaut Software. During her time at Blitz Games Studios, Kim played a major role in Blitz's various educational activities, particularly the organisation of the Blitz Games Open Days which have been a huge success with both students and lecturers. She is a member of Industry Advisory Boards for the Scottish Centre for Excellence in Computer Games Education and the Informatics & Media board for Bradford University’s School of Computing, sits on Creative Skillset’s Video Games Skills Council and became a Fellow of the RSA in 2010.
In her current position as Next Gen Talent Development Coordinator for Creative Skillset and UKIE, Kim aims to assist with the implementation of the recommendations of the Livingstone-Hope report ‘Next Gen’ by helping to build collaborative structures between all those interested in improving the provision of next gen skills, from schools to universities and all points in between.
She'll be speaking on her new job, why she thinks it's important and what she hopes to achieve with it - and how others in the industry can help!
