Saturday 24th September 2016 Fishguard, Pembrokeshire
Run under Canoe Wales and GB Ocean Ski rules
This is an ocean downwind race along the Pembrokeshire coastline. It is currently open to surfskis and OC 6 & OC 3 Outriggers. This race is suitable for experienced ocean paddlers who have completed a minimum of one 20km ocean down wind race within the last 12 months. Details of previous race history will be asked for at registration. Open to Juniors ( 16 + ) Open men & women and Masters (over 40)

Please note that OC1/2 & SUP entries are not being accepted for this event.
INSURANCE – To compete, all individual paddlers must be insured through Canoe Wales/Canoe England/Scottish Canoe Association. This can be with either a £3 day membership or with annual Canoe Wales membership.
Your safety, the safety of your craft, its entire management, including insurance, shall be the sole responsibility of yourself the owner/paddler racing the kayak/canoe. Where a kayak/canoe has been borrowed/rented/hired etc. it is the paddler's responsibility that the kayak/canoe(s) meets the required standard and insurance requirements.
INDEMNITY - The Fishguard Bay Ocean Race crosses a challenging “black belt” seascape and coastal environment. All competitors must show proof of having successfully completing a major, equivalent ocean ski/canoe race - or at very least a self-declaration of competency. All applications for entry will include a self-declaration of competency and indemnity.

COMPULSORY: VHF and/or mobile, buoyancy aid (PFD), leash, whistle and orange smoke flare. All paddlers in OCs must wear a PFD.

A spectacular hand-carved line honours trophy has been commissioned with other prizes for each race category.
Throughout the weekend there will be:

On Saturday 24th: 25km Downwind Race.
On Sunday 25th: Informal Sprint Races off the beach - pm Cardboard Kayak races - Lower Town (3 miles)
Alternative Race Course: In the unlikely event that the wind is from the East the race will run from Newport, Pembs to Fishguard depending on conditions. All day free parking available close to registration venue and finish line.
Free buses will be available to carry paddlers from Goodwick to Abereiddy for the race start. There will also be adequate free boat transport space on trade trailers from Goodwick to Abereiddy on Saturday morning. If you plan to drive your own boat to Abereiddy, please allow plenty of time to leave cars / trailers at Goodwick. Goodwick to Abereiddy and back is approx an 80 minute journey.
The race distance and expected winning time is 25km and approx 105mins respectively. The prize giving ceremony will be on the beach approx. one hour after the last competitor finishes.
