About this event

This event is open to undergraduate students at Leeds University Business School.

As the world struggles to emerge from the COVID-19 crisis, B Corporations may offer the reeling economy a way forward. Certified B Corporations, present in 150 different industries and more than 70 countries globally, are for-profit companies certified by the non-profit B Lab for meeting the highest standards of public transparency and social and environmental performance. These companies are committed to balancing profit and purpose with strict legal accountability – and their model just might be the solution to more stable businesses and a more equitable economy.

In this session, Dr. Jessica Yinka Thomas will discuss how these businesses are better positioned than many other companies to withstand economic downturns and how B Corps are driving progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). B Corps, with an emphasis on stakeholder engagement, are well-positioned to weather financial storms like the one caused by COVID-19. Because of their commitment to maintaining strong relationships with workers, customers, suppliers and communities alike, they are more prepared to make necessary adjustments in the face of economic turbulence.
