Description

*** THIS SESSION IS NOW FULLY BOOKED - IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE ON THE WAITING LIST PLEASE SIGN UP HERE ***

This full day seminar looks at the ecology of the art world from the artist-led space to international art fairs via public institutions and commercial spaces. It considers the roles of curator, gallerist and commissioner as well as other key players in the art world. The seminar identifies strategies and tools for approaching galleries and curators and provides the background to setting up your own exhibitions, from pop-ups in empty shops to longer-term projects.

How to get your work shown is led by Lucy Day, curator at Day + Gluckman. Projects include a 7-year curated programme with the law firm Collyer Bristow and self initiated, curated contemporary visual arts projects with heritage organisations including the National Trust and the Canal and River Trust. Day + Gluckman recently received a Grants for the Arts award towards the research for their A Woman’s Place project. Day is also a commissioned writer on visual arts practice and exhibitions, an advisor and consultant on artists’ professional development for a variety of arts organisations including a-n The Artists Information Company and Artquest and a Visiting Practitioner for University of the Arts (Wimbledon College of Art).

Built around a chosen theme, they feature a variety of conversation, workshops, artist-led tours, networking and debate. Participants can also expect to hear from a-n about the practical ways we supports artists. a-n Assembly has taken place in Margate, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle, Leeds, Salford, Birmingham, Cardiff and Dundee.
