Handling intelligence relating to threats to life and meeting obligations under Article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights Seminar

18 May 2016 | DoubleTree Hilton Hotel, Leeds

28 September 2016 |Hilton Green Park Hotel, London

The Covert Policing Training and Publishing Company (formerly part of the McKay Law company) continue the commitment of its predecessor to make available the best training on how to handle threats to life. This training is delivered by Simon McKay, barrister. He is a former adviser to the government on witness protection related matters and author of “Handling Threats to Life”. He has acted for police and protected persons in a range of cases. Simon’s work in this area led to the adoption by the police nationally of the terms “threat to life or warning notice” and “disruption notice”.

This is one of our most popular seminars, delegates consistently providing positive feedback. We have trained in excess of 10,000 police officers in this area Delegates will be guided through the following key topics:

  • introductory matters: why homicides still happen despite past experiences; views from the courts, regulators and oversight bodies
  • the seven key human rights principles
  • “real and immediate”: definitions and practical application
  • accountable decision-making
  • case study
  • sources of information
  • key learning

The seminar will be interactive, utilising case studies and activities to engage participants in understanding how to translate the theory into practice.
