Are you an emerging craft maker? Join the Crafts Council Maker Development Team, in association with University for the Creative Arts Careers on 17th April for a one-day intensive programme of tips and advice especially tailored for craft makers wanting to set up in business and develop their creativity.
The Hothouse Taster Day is also a great chance to find out more about the Crafts Council's Hothouse programme for emerging makers - get tips from the Maker Development Team on how to apply, and hear from makers who have taken part.
Speakers include Alison Branagan, author of The Essential Guide to Business for Artists and Designers; designer-maker Lee Borthwick of Lee Borthwick Studio*; Outi Remes, Director of the New Ashgate Gallery; Lynne Dick of Making Space; and Alex Brownless of ArtsThread - THE creative graduate website. Plus Hothouse participants Emma Yeo, millinary, and - one year on from their Hothouse Taster Day experience - Jane Cairns, ceramics, and UCA's Laura Grain, mixed media!
'Lee Borthwick is an established designer-maker based in South East London. With a strong passion for natural materials and architectural forms she has been designing and handcrafting interior installations and sculptural works for both residential and commercial spaces since 2009.'
'Alison Branagan is an author and visual arts consultant. Over the last decade she has written several books and has studied different approaches to teaching business theory and enterprise skills. Since 1999 she has established enterprise courses at a number of London universities including Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.'
The Hothouse Taster Day includes:

Talks from emerging and established makers who have done it!
Plus the chance to meet with like minded makers in creative Rochester!
Hothouse provides emerging makers (within 2 years of setting up a craft practice) with a national programme of focussed, intensive business skills and creative development, complemented with mentor and peer support over a 6 month period. Hothouse has been developed by the Crafts Council for delivery in partnership with a range of relevant organisations.
