Turning Point Scotland and the Strathclyde International Public Policy Institute's new Centre for Health Policy, University of Strathclyde warmly invite you to a free half day seminar to discuss poverty, housing and homelessness issues.

We are delighted to announce that Deborah Padgett, Professor of Social Work and Global Public Health, at New York University (NYU) will deliver the keynote presentation. The event will take place on Tuesday 19th August 2014 at the Lecture Theatre, Court / Senate Suite, Collins Building, University of Strathclyde, 22 Richmond Street, Glasgow G1 1XQ http://www.strath.ac.uk/maps/collinsbuilding/

The event will take place from 10.00-12.30 with registration, tea and coffee from 9.30.

Professor Padgett’s visit to Scotland is an exciting opportunity to share best practice and learning within an international context.

Professor Padgett has a wealth of experience doing qualitative research on homelessness in New York City, including two major studies on service engagement and examining mental health issues in individuals experiencing homelessness. This included assessing the impact of ‘Pathways to Housing’, the original Housing First model now adapted by Turning Point Scotland in Glasgow.

The event is part of the new Centre for Health Policy International Seminar Series and Deborah’s visit is part of a wider trans-Atlantic partnership being developed between the SIPPI Centre for Health Policy, University of Strathclyde and New York University on health and housing, poverty and public health.

Given your knowledge and experience of such issues Turning Point Scotland and the Centre for Health policy, we feel that you would have much to contribute to and learn from this seldom available opportunity.

Other speakers at the event include:

  • Professor Sir Harry Burns, Professor of Global Public Health, University of Strathclyde
  • Ian Irvine & Martin Cawley, Turning Point Scotland
  • Pat Coltart, Glasgow City Council
  • Marion Gibbs, Scottish Government

Turning Point Scotland has a long history of providing high quality social care services to a range of people across Scotland.

It does not subscribe to one existing model of service provision. Instead it operates in a person centred way by growing and developing services to suit individual needs.

This is done by consulting with service users and involving them in key decisions on a range of issues governing their support.
