Build a website: Introduction to HTML5 and CSS3
- Film, Media & Entertainment
- The Guardian, N1 9GU London
This intensive one-day masterclass offers unique insight into the skills used by professional sports journalists. Guardian football reporters David Hytner and Jacob Steinberg will explore the key aspects of their craft: the mechanics of the football industry, how journalists find stories, live minute-by-minute blogging, match reporting and writing against deadlines, and the stark realities of trying to break into football journalism. They'll also cover the art of football writing itself - the cliches to avoid, the techniques to employ, and what really annoys the readers.
This masterclass is curated by Ian Prior, Guardian sports editor.
David Hytner is a football writer for The Guardian, based in London and covering all the clubs in the capital. He has previously worked for the Manchester Evening News (very briefly) and the Daily Express. He has covered major tournaments and the biggest games in club football since 1999. He once famously forgot the name of the third West Ham World Cup winner – while in the presence of the other two.
Jacob Steinberg is a football writer for The Guardian, specialising in minute-by-minute reports, live blogging, blogs and podcasts for the website. He also covers tennis. He is a contributor for The Blizzard, a quarterly football magazine edited by Jonathan Wilson. He has also written for ITV's football website, Goal.com and has appeared on ESPN's football podcast.
