Event Details

Here at Escape the City we often hear from people who are stuck in career paralysis - going round in their heads, with no idea where to go next.

This session is for you if you...

  • Don't like your current job,
  • Think there must be more to life,
  • Aren't sure what that is,
  • Are scared of making change because alternatives seem impossible or too uncertain - so you discount alternatives,
  • But you still don't like your current job...
Chartered Psychologist Rob Archer, and his colleague Kirsty Tifft from The Career Psychologist, specialise in helping people who are stuck and in career paralysis. This session is about the psychology of getting unstuck, identifying your best direction and moving forward with purpose.

Come join us for some after-work beers and a talk from Rob about how you can move closer towards finding work you love. Send me your questions (adele@escapethecity.org) and we can make sure they're covered on the evening.

Introducing Rob Archer:

Rob is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist and management consultant with over 15 years’ consulting experience in both public and private sectors.

Rob set up The Career Psychologist in 2008 with the aim of helping those who are stuck in terms of career direction.  Through a combination of applied psychology, decision science, psychometric tests and 1 to 1 sessions, The Career Psychologist helps get people unstuck and moving forward with purpose. Rob writes regularly on the psychology of career change and meaning in work on his blog, Headstuck! In addition, Rob is a Director at LPP Consulting, a fast-growing performance consultancy, where his main areas of focus are employee engagement and resilience, culture and behaviour change, training, coaching, leadership development and assessment.  Rob has extensive experience of consulting to world class FTSE 100 companies, public sector organisations and social enterprises.

Prior to becoming a psychologist, Rob was a management consultant specialising in large-scale organisational development and change projects.  He was part of the team which established Serco Consulting, now a leading UK management consultancy.  At PA Consulting he was part of the team which won a Management Consultancy Award for Best Strategy and Business Transformation project.

Escape the City - The Escape School

Escape the City is a global community of +180,000 talented corporate professionals seeking exciting career opportunities. The Escape School is Escape the City's education arm.

It's not about opting out. It's about ambitious, talented people spending their careers doing work that matters; to them and to the world.

We produce a wide range of talks, events and courses to educate, empower and connect our members for career changes, entrepreneurialism and adventure.

There is so much rubbish advice out there - so many unhelpful myths. We have built the Escape School to teach what we wish we’d learnt back in 2009 when we were commuting to our corporate jobs, wondering how to drive our career in directions that matter to us.
