Description

The Postdoc Centre is thrilled to announce the first speaker of our new series of events 'How to train your PI', Dr Paul Lyons. This new serie will host current PIs to talk about their career journey and give us advice on how to navigate through academia.

Paul’s talk will outline his career to date, highlight the decisions that with hindsight have led him to where he is today, while at the same time hopefully providing some insight into how to avoid the scorpions under the rocks.

Speaker bio

Paul Lyons is a Principal Research Associate in the Department of Medicine with a research interest focused on understanding the underlying basis of immune-mediated disease. Following a degree at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology he undertook a PhD at the University of London, working on the genetics driving the complications of type 1 diabetes. Post-doctoral positions in Western Australia and Oxford followed, preceding a move to Cambridge in 1998 and the award of a Wellcome Trust Senior Fellowship shortly afterwards. Apart from a brief spell at the MRC Rosalind Franklin Centre for Genomics Research, Paul has been based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus ever since. The work initiated during the course of his Fellowship underpins the translational research programme he runs today.
