Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM (BST)
London, United Kingdom
A one-day workshop aimed at anyone who wants to create a synopsis of their book
Writing a synopsis is probably one of the hardest things to do. But a good synopsis, well presented, can help your pitch stand out to literary agents. It can also help you develop into a better writer. Led by bestselling novelist Rowan Coleman with literary agent Madeline Milburn, this one-day course will help you to turn your book into a one-or two-page synopsis. As well as analysing successful synopses and learning how boil a plot down to a page, you will learn how to perfect a short 'elevator pitch' to include in your submission letter through guided writing workshops.
The course will be divided into theoretical and practical sessions. You will learn what makes a good synopsis, how to break a plot down into key components and analyse examples of good and bad synopsis. You will also learn how to use a synopsis as a working document that helps you plan and write your books. You should leave with a working synopsis and elevator pitch.
Rowan Coleman is an expert at creating synopses having pitched and published more than 20 novels since her 2002 début Growing Up Twice. She has written several international bestsellers, including The Accidental Mother, The Baby Group, The Accidental Wife and the double award winning Dearest Rose. Under the name Rook Hastings, Rowan has also written novels for children and teenagers, including the paranormal adventure series Nearly Departed and Immortal Remains. She also writes romantic comedies under the name Scarlett Bailey.
