Event Details

Interdisciplinarity is a key issue both within the Social Sciences and in their relationship to a wide range of other disciplines. The Stern Review has recommended that the next REF take better account of interdisciplinary work, and Government and other agencies often see it as the best way of answering big questions and solving challenging problems.

Higher Education Institutions can create institutional barriers to working across disciplinary boundaries; interdisciplinary configurations can arise based on organisational rather than intellectual need. Questions about continued support for disciplines and the emergence of new ones also arise within an interdisciplinary model. These and other important issues will be addressed at this Academy of Social Sciences conference.
