Is the Equality Act 2010 working?

Do you have an interest in human rights, diversity and equality? Join us for an interactive debate on whether the Equality Act 2010 has been effective in protecting individuals from unfair treatment and promoting a fair and more equal society.

Speaker: Paul Deemer

Head of Equality, Diversity and Human Rights

Paul ensures that equality and diversity are integrated into the wider work of NHS Employers and leads on programmes to help NHS organisations embed equality, diversity and human rights in their work. This includes providing guidance and updates on legislation, representing the combined views of NHS trusts, and sharing knowledge and good practice. Paul also develops and maintains links with national equality commissions, the higher education sector and trade unions.

Prior to taking up his role with NHS Employers Paul worked in local government, the voluntary sector and the health service – with particular experience in the fields of recruitment, employee relations, employment law and diversity. It was whilst working for the charity Barnardo’s that he took on the role of national equality and diversity manager. He then got the opportunity to utilise his experience and knowledge gained in this role when he was seconded into the Department of Health’s equality and diversity team in 2000 to help them develop their national strategy in this area.
